Day Trip - Pirin Mountain, Medite SPA Resort and the Historic Town of Melnik

We will be picked up from our hotel in Sofia in the morning and we will travel south along the Struma highway towards the town of Sandanski, located at the foot of Pirin Mountain. The drive will take us around two and a half hours, during which we will pass through the beautiful landscapes of Southwest Bulgaria, enjoying views of mountains, valleys, and villages along the way.

Our first stop will be in the Popina Laka area in Pirin. Here we will begin a short but refreshing walk through pine forests, following a marked path that leads us deeper into the mountain. The air will be crisp and clean, filled with the scent of pine trees, and we will hear the sound of running water as we approach the waterfall. After about twenty to thirty minutes of walking, we will reach the Popinolashki Waterfall, a charming twelve-meter cascade surrounded by rocks and lush greenery. We will have time to admire the natural beauty, take photos, and enjoy the tranquility of the spot. The sound of the falling water and the cool atmosphere around the waterfall will make this a truly relaxing nature experience before the spa part of our day.

After our walk in Pirin, we will continue to the Medite SPA Resort, one of the most luxurious five-star spa complexes in Bulgaria. We will have about four hours here dedicated entirely to relaxation. We will be able to enjoy both indoor and outdoor mineral pools, whirlpools, and jacuzzis, all filled with healing mineral water. The spa area also includes several types of saunas, steam baths, and a salt room, designed to purify and recharge both body and mind. Those who wish will be able to book a massage or a special therapy for even deeper relaxation. During our time at Medite, we will also have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at the hotel’s restaurant, where both modern and traditional dishes are served, or to simply relax at the elegant bar with a drink while overlooking the beautiful valley of Sandanski. The atmosphere of Medite combines luxury with nature, making it an ideal place for rest after a morning in the mountains.

Later in the afternoon we will continue our journey to Melnik, which is only about twenty minutes from Sandanski. Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria, but it is one of the most charming and unique places in the country. When we arrive, we will take a leisurely walk through its narrow cobblestone streets, surrounded by the famous Melnik sand pyramids that rise above the town like natural sculptures. We will admire the traditional houses built of stone and wood, many of which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when Melnik was a prosperous cultural and trade center. As we walk through the town, we will feel the peaceful atmosphere of a place that seems untouched by time. We will pass by historical landmarks such as the ruins of old churches, preserved merchant houses, and small local museums that tell the story of the town’s rich past. The combination of unique natural formations and authentic Bulgarian architecture makes Melnik a truly unforgettable stop on our journey.

In the early evening we will begin our return to Sofia. On the way back we will once again enjoy the changing scenery, passing through valleys and hills as the sun sets behind the mountains. We will arrive in Sofia in the evening, and we will be dropped off at our hotel, relaxed, refreshed, and inspired by a day that has combined nature, luxury spa, and cultural discovery.
