The urban cable cars of Medellín are an impressive part of the city’s modern transport network, designed to improve mobility for residents living in hillside neighborhoods that were once difficult to access due to the steep terrain. While they serve a practical purpose as public transport, the cable cars also offer passengers a unique way to enjoy some of the most beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
As you ride, you glide over different districts of Medellín—areas that previously struggled with limited access to the rest of the city. The cable cars have brought connectivity and opportunity to many communities, while providing visitors with a new perspective of the urban landscape, green hills, and nearby valleys.
The most famous of these systems is the Metrocable, which links neighborhoods such as Santo Domingo with the main metro line. Convenient, efficient, and safe, the cable cars have become a vital part of Medellín’s daily life and a memorable experience for visitors.
